United had picked up 13 points before they played the first fixture of the month against Charlton Athletic, they added to that when the Addicks came to Bramall Lane. However they had to come from a goal down when Andy Reid struck in the 17th minute.

Captain Chris Morgan (64) headed home the equaliser whilst Keith Gillespie made it two goals in two home games as he struck home a sweet volley two minutes from time to land the Blades maximum points.

A day later Neil Warnock was named as BBC Yorkshire Sports Personality of the Year at the McDonald St. Paul's Hotel, Sheffield. The reward capped a memorable year for the Blades after they successfully clinched promotion to the Premiership after a twelve year absence.

And, a few days before the Blades drew at home to Aston Villa, Warnock visited Sweden when he watched a league fixture between Helsingborg and Danish side OB Odense. United would later complete the signing of Helisngborg striker Luton Shelton a month later.

United met Aston Villa in a tense but thrilling match in front of live TV, like the game against Athletic the Cutlers were forced to come from behind, Stilian Petrov firing home after two minutes.

The Blades came back in the second half with Stephen Quinn (50 minutes) netting his first professional goal for United, and Danny Webber (64) flicked home from close range. Disaster struck when Milan Baros (64) went straight down the pitch to level for the Villans, and that's how it ended.

Rob Hulse netted the only goal in what was a dire game at Wigan Athletic before the Blades lost at Portsmouth.

Former Leeds United striker Rob Hulse once again put the Blades in front, heading home on 4th minute but Pompey bounced back in the second half; a Jagielka (48) own goal, Sol Campbell (54) and Pamarot (68) goals gave the home side the victory.

On Boxing Day the Blades faced Manchester City at Bramall Lane, United battled in front of the City goal only to come out fruitless. However City went away with the win, Stephen Ireland netting the Blues only shot of the match.

In the last match of 2006, on 30 December was at Bramall Lane against Arsenal, and with Live TV present all expect an away win. The Gunners pressured United for the first ten minutes, but after that the Blades pressed against Arsene Wenger's team and on 41 minutes they struck gold.

A ball through allowed Christian Nadé to turn his marker and slot home when one-on-one past keeper Jens Lehmann. The excitement wasn't to stop there, Michael Tonge replaced the injured Paddy Kenny and skipper Phil Jagielka went in goal.

1-0 up the Blades faithful expected a Gunners comeback, they tried but the team pulled together whilst Jagielka pulled off a terrifying save near the end to deny Van Persie. It was a memorable occasion which will stick in the memories of many Blades for years to come.
