The month of March saw United tragically lose striker Rob Hulse who broke his leg after colliding with Chelsea goal keeper Petr Chech on St. Patrick's Day as the Blades went down 3-0 at Stamford Bridge.

A point at home to Everton kick started the monthly campaign, although United should have claimed all three points, but a costly mistake by paddy Kenny gave the Toffees a penalty which Mikel Arteta (75) duly dispatched. This cancelled out Rob Hulse's 52nd strike - it was a relatively poor performance by the visitors and the number of chances the Blades were given should have rewarded with a victory.

Midfielder Li Tie is called up by the Chinese National squad to face Australia and Uzbekistan, however the former Evertonian has yet to kick a ball in anger in the Premiership for United after a series of injuries. Ahmed Fathi is also called up as Egypt face Mauritania in the African Nations Cup.

The biggest lose to United was striker Rob Hulse who went down after a innocent challenge by keeper Petr Cheh, Hulse is found to broke his leg and will miss the remainder of the season.

The former West Bromwich Albion and Leeds United striker has an operation on his broken leg the following day which helps speed up recovery.

On 20th March the team learn that their fixture with Manchester United on 10 April at Old Trafford will be moved to a week after, after the Red Devils advanced in their mission to lift the Champions League.

United go on a weeks training in Portugal before they descend into Lancashire to face Bolton Wanderers at the Reebok Stadium.

Keith Gillespie, on 24 March sets up David Healy for the second goal as Northern Ireland claim a valuable 4-1 win over Lichtenstein in Vaduz. Elsewhere Colin Kazim-Richards scores on his Turkish Under-21 international debut as they beat Switzerland 2-1, and immediately after the game is put on stand by for the first team squad.

A Kevin Davies goal (80th minute) is the difference at the Reebok Stadium as Bolton Wanderers improve there UEFA Cup chances with a 1-0 victory over Sheffield United. Jamaican Luton Shelton comes off the substitutes bench to make his debut as the Blades are unlucky to go away with a defeat.
