2007-2008 review - March

A dreadful performance by the players meant that they paid the price when Charlton ran out 2:0 winners. Iwelumo openened the scoring in injury time in the 1st half. The Addicks lead was doubled on 82 minutes when Sodje sealed the three points for the Londoners. Stephen Quinn saw red on 90 minutes when he lashed out a professional foul on Jose Semedo.

A long trip to Suffolk on a Tuesday night saw the Blades pick up a respectable point against Ipswich Town. James Beattie scored the only goal for the Blades but that was cancelled out by Alan Lee in the 2nd half.

The long journeys continued when the South Yorkshire faithful met Plymouth at Home Park. James Beattie's second headed goal in a row ensured the Kevin Blackwell's first win as Blades boss in a 1:0 win.

Billy Sharp's first league goal of the season and Gary Speed's rebound from a penalty meant that Coventry was the first team of the season the Blades have done the double over. Elliot Ward scored from the spot for the Sky Blues in the 2:1 victory to United.

Yet another win occurred when Billy Sharp's confidence was boosted even more when he scored his second in two games. Matt Kilgallon bagged the other on 56 minutes with a close-range header.

Sharp's success continued when his long range effort from just outside the area found the back of the net against Barnsley at Oakwell. The Blades faithful who made the short journey went crazy when the 22 year old scored what proved to be the winning goal.

The delightful March ended in misery when the Blades ran out 3:1 losers at Preston North End. When the scoreline was 2:0 to PNE the Blades had a penalty with only minutes remaining. James Beattie converted which set up an intresting final 6 minutes of added time. But Mellor capped the day off for North End on 96+7 minutes when he scored Preston's third goal of the game.
