3140514Danny Philliskirk's first-half goal for the Blades was cancelled out by Joel Purkiss' leveller in the second period, meaning United would draw their first pre-season encounter.

The result, however, wasn't Wilson's main concern after the game, with him rather focusing on team and individual performances.

Many youth and development players had the chance to shine in front of their new boss, and Wilson knows the importance of minutes on the playing field for his players and the need of gaining match fitness.

After the game, he said: "These games are tough but the most important thing is to get the young lads minutes on the pitch and I thought they came through it very well.

"It's been a good work out after a week and a half on the training pitch and it really helps to see some of our young players playing against men, as was the case today.

"We didn't put the ball into the box anything like as much as we need to score goals - we spent too much time with the ball at the back and didn't get it forward quickly enough. You learn a bit more as a manager, watching the players play, but it will take time for them to get used to the style of play we want to play.

"The supporters will give these young talented lads time, they will see how hard they are trying and that they are learning. I hope they will be patient with them."

United feature in their second pre-season outing on Tuesday night when they travel to Worksop Town. Wilson confirmed that more recognised first-team players will be involved.

He continued: "We gave a lot of the youngsters a chance to shine at Sheffield FC, whilst the supporters will get the chance to see more of the recognised first team squad on Tuesday night as the pitch at Worksop is in very good condition - it should be a good game."

There has been a lack of movement in the transfer market as far as United are concerned, but Wilson totally expects incomings and outgoings in the near future, and reveals he hopes to secure a signing this week. He finished:

"There will be players leaving and some to come in during the next few weeks and we have to be ready for 6th August. I expect us to make signings, possibly as soon as early next week, to add a bit of strength to the squad."
