Adams desperate to stay with Blades

Adams has steered his hometown team to only two wins in 18 league games since being installed as Gary Speed's successor in late December and the Blades are currently seven points adrift of safety with five games remaining.

"I think I've known since day one that staying up was going to be difficult and I'll take my share of the responsibility if we go down," Adams said. "If we do go down I want to be the manager that brings us back up.

"I'll still be here at the end of the season and players also have a lot to play for because, for some of them, if their futures are not here then who will take them?"

Adams added: "I have to give our magnificent supporters a team to be proud of and all I'm looking for is for the players to put in a good shift and show they care about Sheffield United."
