The Gaffer has led his Sheffield United side to four wins and two draws in the month of March which has meant United are keeping the pressure on the top three and are pulling away from the teams below them.

The 50-year-old fought off competition from Mick McCarthy (Wolves), Owen Coyle (Burnley) and Bryan Gunn (Norwich) to swoop the award.

Although he's claimed the accolade, he confesses that it goes to everyone connected with the club. He said:

"I am very happy to receive it on behalf of the Club but managers don't win games, players do, so I think it should really go to them - and everyone connected with Sheffield United who has helped, including our supporters."

"Since I came about fourteen months ago we must have had around sixty games and I think our record in those would put us top overall. The point I am making is that we are where we are for what we have built up in that time.

"The award is for the month but we have been building for a long time."

Chris Kamara who chose and announced the winner live on Sky Sports News said: "Sheffield United had the hardest fixtures out of any team in the Coca-Cola Championship and came through with flying colours.

"They beat two of their fellow promotion contenders, Birmingham City and Cardiff City and in doing so have put themselves in contention not only for the Play Offs, but also for automatic promotion if they continue this sort of form."

Before the winner was announced, Blackwell joked: "I don't want it, I don't want the curse."

Meanwhile just several miles away Chesterfield boss Lee Richardson claimed the League Two Manager of the Month Award for March.

Well done Blackie!
