The 24 year-old has made impressive strides in his season long loan at Bramall Lane, and has arguably become a crowd favourite with him playing in every position except in goal. Even though he has had a relatively promising tenure at United, he has put his future on hold.

He said: "I've been asked this question a lot and I will always say the same thing in that coming here on a permanent basis is an option for me. It is a really nice option for me to have, but not the only one available to me. I haven't spoken to Kevin Blackwell about it and it is purely paper talk at the moment.

"I'm sure I'll sit down with both Ricky Sbragia and Kevin about what their plans are and where I fit in with those plans, but at the minute I'm just concentrating on playing for the Blades and helping them fight for promotion.

"We are not thinking about missing out on the top six because that would be such a disappointment - it isn't worth thinking about. We are aiming for the top two and the play-offs are a nice thing to fall back on should we miss out on the top two.

"But missing out on the play-offs isn't an option for us really."
