Howard, 26-years-of-age, made over 100 appearances for the Tykes and famously netted a stunning added-time goal at Anfield which will go down in the FA Cup history books forever. After playing for Barnsley earlier on this season, when interest from the Blades arose, he knew where he was going due to the ambitions the club boast.

He was angrily criticised for moving just several miles across the South Yorkshire border, especially in Barnsley, but he wants to point out that the move wasn't because of money.

He said: "I have got my passion and love back for football and I came here to get big goals, so hopefully there is one more left in me. There is a lot of competition within the squad and everybody has had a spell out of the team during the season.

"I did find that tough with it being the first time it had happened in my career. I think people have realised that I didn't want to sign here for the money - I want to be a Premier League player and I felt I had the best chance of doing that coming here."
