Blades not to appeal

3139263Sheffield United narrowly lost to Yorkshire rivals Leeds United in a fiery derby which saw two red cards, however, both Leeds' Robert Snodgrass and the Blades' Jamie Ward could be excused for feeling hard done by referee Anthony Taylor.

Snodgrass was dismissed for two bookable offences, both admittedly harsh, and then Ward saw a straight red for an innocuous attempt to the win the ball back from Kilkenny -the Blades attacker didn't catch the player.

The referee probably presumed their was 'intent', and after contacting the referee's association, Gary Speed has agreed not to challenge Ward's sending off, which brings with it a three-match ban.

Speed said: "I could see that Jamie didn't make any contact whatsoever but after studying it again and getting feedback from various sources we didn't want to risk the appeal being adjudged as being frivolous which would have brought a four game suspension.

"I have spoken to the referee's association and, although they can see where I am coming from, the final decision will be made by a panel which might see things differently."

Ward will be out for tonight's clash down at Nottingham Forest, Saturday's home encounter with Watford, and another home game, this time against Burnley.
