Howard who permanently signed in January from neighbours Barnsley, says he is delighted the lads are going strong and he will keep working hard to feature in the team which faces Crystal Palace on the final day.

Of course, Howard received a yellow card against Reading last week which means he will have to pay the consequences of missing out on two games.

He said: "It will be difficult to sit out because you want to be involved in it all but I'm going to be sat on the sidelines with itchy feet. I'm going to get my cheerleader outfit on, my pom poms out and cheer on the lads and hope they do the business.

"It's been a stop start season for me, with suspensions and games that I can't play in. It's been frustrating but also exciting because we are still in the reckoning for automatic promotion.

"There are 22+ players wanting to play every week but it's not going to happen. I've got my head down and I haven't chucked all of my toys out of the pram and when I have had my chance, I think I have done alright.

"I hope the Nottingham Forest game isn't my last game of the season, but then again it won't be a bad thing because that means the lads have been playing well and have probably picked up two wins.

"I'll travel with the squad to all of the games, I want to be part of it because I've come here so we can get promoted. We're in a very strong position and I'm sure with the hard work and desire we've got, I'm sure we'll succeed."
