The Italian Under-20 international was set to leave the Lane this summer with a host of clubs including Juventus and Arsenal with his deal due to expire. He had turned down the offer of a new deal under the former leadership of Nigel Clough.
However with new boss Nigel Adkins at the helm the former Southampton and Reading boss could persuade him to stay with the opportunity of more playing time.
Whilst no deal has yet been confirmed it looks more positive than it did a few weeks ago.
