Hodgkinson, 71 kept in goal 675 times for Sheffield United between 1953 and 1971 whilst he also earned five caps for the England national team between 1957 and 1960 has been rewarded with the 'Member of the British Empire' by Queen Elizabeth II for services to sport.

Affter retiring he became a successful coach at Bramall Lane whilst he later went onto be employed by England, Scotland, Manchester City and United, Glasgow Rangers, Everton and now current club Oxford United.

Elswhere other football honours have been rewarded to Ronnie McFall (Portadown FC manager) and Ivor Powell (Team Bath FC manager) who both pick up an MBE, whilst former Arsenal coach Bob Wilson, Des Lynam (commentator) and Gordon Taylor (PFA Chief Excecutive) are rewarded with the 'Order of the British Empire' (OBE).
