FA Cup Shake Up Could Ruin Football!

The Football Association could scrap replays and start playing fixtures during midweek with (presumably) only the Semi-Finals and the Final played at the weekend. Other talks may also see the Semi-Finals of the League Cup reduced to just one straight leg.

With fears that a potential fixture pile-up will affect the English National Team the move would scrap any replay's in the event of a draw at 90 minutes with extra-time and penalties taking place to decide the outcome on the day.

Although at an early stage in discussions any move to change the format of the Emirates FA Cup would only come into force once the existing TV deal ends in 2018, whilst the Football League would be required to sanction any change to the League Cup.

For lower clubs, a change could financially cripple their finances with little opportunity of earning a big pay out in a replay at a top Premiership side.

The FA Cup is oldest professional cup competition in the World and whilst it has seen may changes develop over the years with the abandonment of the second replay in the very early 1990's and no replay's at the Semi-Final stage.

Many supporters will be set against a change in the set-up. Saturday fixtures should remain in order to keep the competition attractive with the League Cup being scrapped altogether, the Europa League spot awarded for winning the competition should be given to a Premier League spot with the winners of the FA Cup being given the mantel of a UEFA Champions League place.
