Shittu, 26 was cautioned by referee Martin Atkison (West Yorkshire) after Jonathan Stead was judged to have been elbowed in the face as he looked to break through on goal.
However, although the referee took action he wrongfully cautioned Shittu when it was in fact Clarke Carlisle who committed the offence, he had been booked earlier in the game and would have been sent off.
The booking is likely to be transferred with Carlisle receiving the punishment of a one match ban.
