1613678Danny Wilson has drafted in his third signing of the summer in the shape of Scotsman Ryan Flynn. Flynn joins fellow newcomers Lescinel Jean-Francois and Danny Philliskirk as United gear up for a tough campaign in England's third tier.

The former Liverpool youngster has penned a three-year deal at Bramall Lane and joins for an undisclosed fee.

22-years-old, Flynn can operate on both flanks, and also in central-midfield, meaning his versatility is added bonus for the Blades.

Reports suggest United fought off competition from SPL side Hearts. The Edinburgh-born midfielder could have joined his hometown club, but the Blades won the race for the prospect.

Flynn began his career at Falkirk, but Liverpool soon swooped for him, seeing him win two FA Youth Cups at Anfield, but then was re-signed by the Scottish club, becoming one of their hottest talents.

Manager Danny Wilson reveals he has been tracking Flynn for weeks, and he is extremely pleased to draft him in. He said: "I have said before that you need width in your team, we have got something of an imbalance at the moment and Ryan will help us balance that out.

"We also need to add players in that area with Mark Yeates gone, we have moved quickly. We have had an inkling for a while that Ryan might be available and I have tracked him for a number of weeks, there have been a number of other clubs interested but we have managed to tickle his fancy to join us.

"Ryan has got good pace and real ability and the main thing is he can service the strikers, which is vitally important because if he produces the right balls we should score more than last season.

"He is predominantly right-footed but can play on the left, but he can also play down the middle, so he is versatile. I like players who can offer different things and Ryan fits the bill. He is young with potential and has a lot of football in front of him. In Ryan we have got a good acquisition."

Despite not being confirmed, Flynn more than likely has flown with the squad to Malta for their pre-season tour.
