The former Notts County defender was dismissed 16 minutes into United's battle with Nottingham Forest on Easter Monday. Wilson firstly attempted to time waste and then a few seconds later his head connected with Greg Halford which meant referee Mike Jones showed him a straight red.

Forest manager Billy Davies said: "He will be disciplined for what I felt was a situation where he let everyone down. It's a big learning curve for this young lad.

"I told him before the game not to get caught up in the tricks and the experience of Sheffield United and the way they play. Unfortunately he fell into the trap and there will be punishment for that."

The consequences has meant that Wilson's season has come to a premature end due to their being only three games left, and his ban will cover all of those encounters.
