Nigel Adkins has indicated that in order to bring in new players he must allow some of the present squad to leave Bramall Lane. Freeman, 23 has been allowed to join Paul Cook's Portsmouth on loan for the remainder of the season.
Following Marc McNulty on loan, Freeman has become the fourth player to join Fratton Park from the Blades. Former Captain Michael Doyle and Ben Davies both made their move via free transfers last summer to the South coast club.
