On 18th March 1889, just twelve days after a FA Cup semi-final took place between Preston North End and West Bromwich Albion representatives from Sheffield United Cricket Club decided to create a Football Club to fill the game during the winter times.
Though a meeting about the matter took place at the Aldaphi Hotel on 22 March where all committee agreed that it would be a good idea to form such a club. And with the space of a week found enough players to compete against other clubs.
