Harper, 28, has had arguably had an average start to his Blades career and has netted twice but both have only been mere consolations. The ex Reading man has publicised his, and his fellow team-mates' backing, for Blades boss Kevin Blackwell, and he hopes the United faithful can pull the club out of the barren run they are currently experiencing.

He said: "The gaffer is not going anywhere and we are right behind him. He took this team to the play-offs last season and went close the season before. The whole team is committed to the manager and committed to winning games.

"We are getting 25,000 gates every game and we need them to be our extra player.

"You can't please everyone. As a player, you're going to get 24,000 that love you and 4,000 that hate you. It's one of those things. You can only go out and do your best for the team and hopefully win.

"The fans didn't boo during the Cardiff game and that was good. The fans also stayed behind to clap us at the end because they know we are fighting hard.

"No one likes playing against Sheffield United because we have a good team and good players but, at the moment, every shot from the opposition seems to be going in or flying into the top corner. We are not as solid as we should be and we keep getting done on the counter attack a little bit. But we will get it sorted.

"I have been playing professional football eight years now and you have good days and bad. It is a crazy division this season and you just need to get on a roll to move quickly up the table. If you are mentally right, the sky is the limit."

Speaking on Monday's mouth-watering encounter with Newcastle United in front of the Sky cameras, he finished: "Newcastle have just come down from the Premier League so it will be a big test and a yardstick of where we are."
