Last season he spent some time at Scarborough on loan with then manager Russell Slade. Now Slade is at Grimsby and has once again used his blades connections to secure his services.
"We felt his chances might be limited at the Lane this season," Terry Robinson told sufc.co.uk.
"He had experience of working with Russell at Scarborough and it will benefit us, him and Grimsby.
"Then, after watching him during the season, we can make a decision on his future with us."
