Huckerby, who is nearing the end of a loan spell at Norwich City has been targeted by several clubs in the Nationwide, particular those of Norwich, Millwall, Wigan Athletic and now Sheffield United.
"I have enquired about Darren as he's the sort we are looking for to compensate the loss of Steve Kabba.
"But once his loan spell at Norwich finishes I think he'll return to City and wait until the transfer window before deciding on his future."
Meanwhile there are strong links with Wolves after it has emerged that striker Dean Sturridge could make a loan move to Bramall Lane from Molineux.
Wolves Central Website reported that the Blades manager was at a Wolves Reserve game watching the former Derby County striker, but then he could be looking at other players.
United have been finding goals, but are not scoring enough to compete with West Bromwich Albion, Norwich City or Ipswich Town and Sturridge who scored in the 3-3 draw at Bramall Lane last season could be the man for the job.
Warnock told Sky Sports News "Yes, we have a lot of front players but I am still not sure we have got the guaranteed 20 goal a season man we need,"
"I have made enquiries but clubs don't want to let good players go. Having said that, I am sure that with the strikers we have, other clubs wish they were in our position."
