"Phil started off last season in good form but in the second half tailed off and had a sticky patch," Warnock told sufc.co.uk.
"To his credit he picked it up a bit towards the end and against Spurs last Sunday he was back to his best and had that bite about him which he needs consistently.
"I told him afterwards he shouldn't be doing that just against Spurs, but against the Crewes and Burnleys and every other team we'll play this season."
