The Reds continued their dominance at the top of the English Premier League with a 2-0 win over Sheffield United with goals from Michael Carrick and the formidable Wayne Rooney.
However the Blades will have felt hard done by when they were denied a clear cut penalty. Debutant Luton Shelton beat his marker for pace and skill before finding his legs taken away by left-back Gabriel Heinze when about to pull the trigger, referee Rob Styles waved play on.
