The Reds also return to domestic action after a fortnights rest but they were involved in the Champions League knock-out first stage as they travelled to Spain to face La Liga giants Barcalona at the Nou Camp.

Under manager Rafa Benitez the visitors went away with an historical 2-1 away win to take them into the second leg, Craig Bellamy and John Arne Riise cancelling out Deco's strike.

The Anfield club should recall Xabi Alonso who is available again after suspension whilst new signing Javier Mascherano from West Ham United could make his debut if he didn't do so in Spain.

Striker Craig Bellamy is thought to be included in the side despite his spat with full-back John Arne Riise on the training ground.

The Merseyside club will be without Australian international Harry Kewell, the former Leeds United Midfielder is expected to out for the remainder of the season with septic arthritis.

Meanwhile Luis Garcia is injured with a Anterior Cruciate Ligament and is also out until further notice whilst Mark 'Speedy' Gonzalez (shin) and Fabio Aurelio (foot) are out for a few days but are expected to miss the visit of Sheffield United.

Possible Reds Line-Up: Jose Manuel Reina, Alvaro Arbeloa, Jamie Carragher, Daniel Agger, John Arne Riise, Steve Finnan, Mohamed Sissoko, Xabi Alonso, Steven Gerrard, Craig Bellamy, Dirk Kuyt,

Sheffield United, also without action for two weeks go into the game on the back of a stunning 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur. Jermaine Jenas had given the visitors the lead as early as the third minute when he chipped over Kenny in an unmarked goal.

From there it was all go with Rob Hulse heading home the equaliser following a timely corner and in the second half Phil Jagielka hammered home a penalty to win the game after Stephen Quinn was penalised in the box. It wasn't however Hulse's day, despite netting one goal he could have completed his hat-tick had the cross bar not got in the way of two other attempts at goal.

Sheffield United winger Keith Gillespie will remain on the sidelines, the North Ireland international has been handed an extra one match ban by the FA on top of the three he has already served after he altercations with Reading's Nicky Hunt.

Strikers Danny Webber (calf), Luton Shelton (groin) and captain Chris Morgan (calf) are all doubts and aren't expected to feature. Shelton has yet to make a start for the Blades since his move from Swedish outfit Helsingborg's last January.

Midfielder Michael Tonge will also sit out the fixture at Anfield, he picked up his fifth booking in the 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur and should serve a one match suspension.

Meanwhile; Mikele Leigertwood (ankle), Ian Bennett (fractured finger), Claude Davis (knee) and Matthew Kilgallon (ankle) have all returned from their respective injuries and may be involved in the tie at Anfield.

Possible Blades Line-Up: Paddy Kenny, Derek Geary, Claude Davis, Matthew Kilgallon, Chris Armstrong, Mikele Leigertwood, Stephen Quinn, Phil Jagielka, Nick Montgomery, Colin Kazim-Richards, Christian Nade.

Man in the Middle: Steve Bennett (Kent)

Match official Steve Bennett, who refereed the 2003 Play-Off Final will be in charge of the Blades second Premiership fixture this season. He man from Kent was in charge at Newcastle United when a single Danny Webber goal was enough to hand Sheffield United their first away win of the season.
