After claiming a 1-0 victory over relegation rivals Watford on their own turf the Blades faced Charlton Athletic a week last Saturday and turned out a deserved 2-1 win.

However, as usual they made heavy whether of it and had to come from a goal down after Andy Reid fired the visitors in front of the Kop. United had to wait until the second half until they got going after spurring a hat full of chances in the first. After a sweet swung in corner Chris Morgan was on the end to head home and with two minutes left Keith Gillespie's volley broke the net with his strike.

Although he didn't feature; Defender David Sommeil returned to the Blades squad all be it as a unused substitute against Athletic; has recently recovered from an ankle injury.

Despite the fact United lost the game there were good news to follow after the Blades lost 2-1 at Leeds United in a behind closed doors friendly to help the fitness of Whites midfielder Kevin Nicholls. Ade Akinbiyi scored the visitors goal as he returned to action after a hamstring injury.

Midfielder Michael Tonge also featured during the defeat; the former Manchester United trainee limped off just eight minutes into the game against Chelsea on 28 October with an ankle strain and has not played since. Also returning to the United squad was Paul Ifill who has been out of action whilst playing for the Barbados National Team.

Otherwise; only Defenders Claude Davis and Chris Armstrong who both suffer from knee injuries are the only casualties at Bramall Lane.

Aston Villa fans were treated to a pulsating 2-2 performance away to Portsmouth in the Premiership clash last Saturday. Captain Gareth Barry slotted home a penalty whilst Matthew Taylor levelled for Pompey.

After the break Taylor handed the home side an 80th minute lead until two minutes later Milan Baros drew level at 2-2. There was dismay for the Fratton Park club who saw Defender Predro Medes receive two yellow cards - he will miss their game against Everton but will not miss the fixture when the Blades play their in five games time.

Veteran striker Chris Sutton is currently out with a calf injury and missed the previous two fixtures against Portsmouth and Middlesbrough. However the former Chelsea and Glasgow Celtic forward remains hopeful that he will return against the Blades.

Star striker Juan Pablo Angel knows that the visit to Bramall Lane is going to be tough but remains positive and is keen to show the crowed what he can do. Man in the Middle: Mark Halsey (Lancashire)

Match official Mark Halsey was due to charge of the Blades fixture at West Ham United, however the official was charged a day before and referee Mike Riley became his replacement.
