sheffield united v charlton athletic
The Blades almost came unstuck against the Hornets at Vicarage Road in the relegation six pointer on Tuesday; Christian Nadé and Rob Hulse both smashed the woodwork whilst Nadé saw a penalty appeal turned down.

It was justice in the end as Danny Webber headed in after the ball struck the underside of the cross bar - all be it Webber was offside but the goal stood and United won 1-0 whilst the home side saw Chris Powell see two book able offences.

Defender Claude Davis was carried off during the victory with a knee injury; it is thought that the injury sustained isn't too serious and could still play against Athletic.

Neil Warnock made changes to the side that lost at West Ham United; introducing Christian Nadé to the starting line-up and returning to the more familiar 4-4-2 formation which we could see this Saturday.

However United will once again be without French Defender David Sommeil (ankle), but is close to recovery and should return to training after the weekend. As will Midfielder Michael Tonge (also ankle) who has been sorely missed all be it the great performances put in by young Nicky Law as cover.

The home side will also be without striker Adi Akinbiyi (hamstring) and former Oldham Athletic defender Chris Armstrong (knee).

Possible Blades Line-Up: Paddy Kenny, Leigh Bromby, Phil Jagielka, Chris Morgan, Derek Geary, Keith Gillespie, Nick Montgomery, Mikele Leigertwood, Alan Quinn, Rob Hulse, Danny Webber.

Charlton Athletic; under the leadership of new manager Les Reed can't say that life is rosy in the Premiership as they currently boast to be the strongest side in the top flight.

Still, despite a terrible start to the season the London club was able to claim a point against one of the better sides in the League after drawing 1-1 with Everton. They had to bounce back though, Andy Reid levelling after Hermann Hreidarsson has stuck through his own net.

The visitors to Bramall Lane will be without former Netherlands international striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink who is out with a hamstring strain. The former Chelsea and Leeds United forward currently has 3 goals to his name this season after 13 appearances since he joined the club this summer.

The Valley Stadium club will also be without Kevin Lisbie (Shoulder) and Defender Souleyymane Diawara (hamstring).

Les Reed could opt to field former Sheffield United striker Marcus Bench who came off the bench during the 1-1 draw with the Toffees. He was signed by Adrian Heath in October 1999 for £300k, and in 56 appearances netted a stunning 24 goals during his time.

He was later sold for £2.1M to Blackburn Rovers in November 2000, he later made appearances for Ipswich Town, Leicester City (loan) and Everton before joining Charlton Athletic.

Possible Addicks Line-Up: Scott Carson, Luke Young, Talal El Karkouri, Djimi Traore, Hermann Hreidarsson, Darren Ambrose, Amady Faye, Matthew Holland, Andy Reid, Darren Bent, Dennis Rommedahl.

Man in the Middle: Phil Dowd (Staffordshire)
