Montgomery backs Blades to challenge

Sheffield United midfielder Nick Montgomery is convinced the Blades can put last season's disappointment behind them to launch a promotion challenge. Montgomery, who has signed a new three-year deal at Bramall Lane this summer, was forced to play out of position at times during the last campaign such were the injury problems that effectively scuppered the Blades' promotion chances. Montgomery told the club's official website: "There's not many clubs that can match the size of this one. You only have to look at the attendances last season. "I think we were second or third in the (attendance) league and that's after everyone said we had a bad season, but we still finished eighth after all the stuff we went through. "The manager did a great job with what he had to work with at times. I had to fill in at the back a couple of times and it was a tough season. "But we can hold our heads up high and I think (next season) we'll definitely have a good chance of challenging."
