The 26-year-old, who arrived at Bramall Lane in early January, agreed a two-month extension to his loan from Premiership outfit Newcastle United.
Warnock told www.sufc.co.uk: "We wouldn't be able to do anything unless we got in the Premiership. That's the only way we could afford him."
