Phil Dowd's Iffy Decision

Onoura had allegedly elbowed Canaries Malky Mackay, after a consultation with the assistant referee Phil Dowd from Staffordshire made it his best interest to show Iffy a straight red card.

This means a automatic three match ban, which would start at the Blades visit to Priestfield Stadium against Gillingham on 21 September (he would also miss Watford and League Cup Round 2 (if United got through v York), if not he would miss Wolverhampton Wanderers away).

After the match Mr. Dowd reviewed the video footage and agreed that the challenge was not worthy of a red card and will now only have a yellow card to his name.

Iffy Onoura told www.sufc.co.uk "I was disappointed with the sending off because there was nothing at all malicious in it".

"It was the sort of challenge that strikers and centre halves are involved in many times in every game. I've never been sent off for violent conduct before - its not part of my game".

This is not the first time Phil Dowd has been in controversial decisions before involving Sheffield United, in the same game he failed to give Darren Kenton a second yellow card after bringing down Michael Tonge for a penalty.

In the very first game of the season at Coventry, the sky blues were awarded a goal when it was quite clear that Robert Ullathorne had cleared off the line.

Iffy Onoura will now be able to play against Gillingham, Watford and Wolves as the yellow card is not enough to give him a suspension.
