Rovers complete record deal for Sharp

Doncaster have completed the signing of striker Billy Sharp from Sheffield United in a club record deal. Rovers, who had a £1million bid for the 24-year-old turned down in May, have had an increased offer, reported to be £1.1million, accepted and Sharp has signed a three-year contract. Doncaster manager Sean O'Driscoll said: "Everyone knows what a difference Billy's goals made to us last season, but on top of that he very quickly became an integral and popular member of the squad, always displaying a great attitude and willing to put in a real shift for the good of the team. "He is one of those characters who is great to have around a football club and he just loves playing football and scoring goals. "A lot of people have worked extremely hard this summer to try to make this happen and thanks must go to the board for supporting the move and to Sheffield United, who ever since allowing Billy to come on loan here initially last season, have been nothing but helpful and fair in our dealings with them." Sharp scored 15 goals in 34 games while on loan at the Keepmoat Stadium last season, helping Rovers to 12th spot in the npower Championship, the club's highest finish since returning to football's second tier in 2008.
