Crowds gathered outside Sheffield's cathedral to listen to the funeral service for Mr Dooley, which was relayed from inside the church via loudspeakers.

Among the mourners were former England and Manchester United hero Sir Bobby Charlton, cricket legend Dickie Bird and former Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock.

Mr Warnock and another former Sheffield United manager, Dave Bassett, gave eulogies to Mr Dooley, with Mr Bassett remembering him as a man who "was respected by everybody".

The funeral cortege was accompanied by a police motorcycle outrider and was applauded both when it arrived at the cathedral and left for a private family service at a city crematorium.
