Sheffield United Fail With £12m Bid for Bournemouth's Aaron Ramsdale

Sheffield United have been knocked back by Bournemouth with a first failed bid for Aaron Ramsdale.

The south coast side were consigned to relegation from the top flight on the final day of last season, although the performances of their young goalkeeper stood out in an otherwise miserable campaign.

Just 22 years old, Ramsdale enjoyed a breakthrough season at Dean Court having spent last season on loan at Wimbledon, featuring in all but one of the matches under Eddie Howe's tenure.

Such were his performances that the Blades have decided to act by offering £12m to the relegated side, however, Sky Sports report that the bid has been rejected. One of the main reasons for the Cherries knocking the bid back is their belief that Ramsdale should command a fee similar to that when Jordan Pickford moved to Everton at a similar age (£25m).

Should they come back in for last season's Bournemouth Player of the Year then it would mark a return to Bramall Lane for the keeper, having left the Yorkshire side to move south three years ago for a fee of £1m.

The Blades' pursuit of a goalkeeper strongly indicates that Dean Henderson will return to Manchester United and fight for the number one spot. He has spent the last two seasons on loan with Sheffield United from Old Trafford - with talk of a possible third - but it appears as if he will now head back to his parent club. Henderson has been in talks with the Red Devils over a new contract.

A number of high profile errors from David de Gea have clearly had their toll on his position, with an exciting tussle for a place in the first team set to commence.

As of yet it isn't known whether Chris Wilder's side will return with a new offer, although given they don't currently boast a standout keeper, it looks likely they will.
