The Blades came just below par with Derby County in the average home attendance column, which deserves a separate praise on it's own. But the 20 odd thousand supporters packed in the home sections of Bramall Lane are known for making the ground an intimidating place.

Kevin Blackwell said: "I remember speaking to John Aldridge once after and he had been to a game here and he couldn't get enough of the atmosphere our fans create. Stuart Pearce also spoke about the noise at the derby in 2008, and that is what our fans are about.

"They have got such an influence. Every manager has critics in the crowd but on the whole they know I give them everything - and the performances have been good enough to keep us pushing for promotion.

"They are Premier League fans and I would like to thank them for everything they have done and given", he added. "This is a great place we can be proud of and everyone just wants to get to the Premiership."
