Sheffield United's campaign may have finished almost a month ago, but events  have been played at Beautiful Downtown Bramall Lane since the season's home finale versus Swansea City. Local league cup finals, a community day and, of course, the rugby have all been showcased at Bramall Lane in the last few weeks. Last night (Thursday), Sheffield Eagles played their last game at Bramall Lane of the Co-operative Championship season;  a game which they incidentally lost 24:25 to Keighley.

Glen Nortcliffe, Bramall Lane's head groundsman, said: "What we are doing this summer is standard procedure to give us the best possible chance of the pitch being in excellent condition throughout next season.

"The top 15mm of grass is being taken off, the surface will be re-levelled and then 30 tons of sand laid before the pitch is re-seeded. We've also embedded a sprinkler system under the pitch that will enable us to water the pitch just before and at half-time on matchdays.

"We will work on it throughout the summer ready, for the start of the Championship season in early August."
