Tonge can't wait

The 25 year old described the previous season as "mixed" but says the appointment of Kevin Blackwell has picked the confidence of the whole team. Tonge has only scored the one goal in the 2007/2008 season and that was on the opening day against Colchester United.

"It was a mixed bag. We didn't perform (at the start of the season) in a difficult situation with the new manager at the start of the season, although personally i thought i made a decent start by scoring in the first game", described Tonge.

"It was frustrating at the start of the season, especially with the squad we had, but all that changed when Kevin Blackwell came in.

"His introduction was a massive boost in confidence - he picked right times to have a stern word and show authority, he was very fair and we have performed after a kick up the backside.

On an upturn form from Tonge under Blackwell he said:"It has not been a season of highs, although it was a satisfying result against Hull to win with ten men - that was an indicator on how far we had come.

"I'm excited about next year, we have a lot of quality in the squad. We will start from day one of pre-season training and see where it takes us."
