Wigan pair won't become Blades

David Cotterill had a tremendous 3 month loan spell last season and would improve the Blades squad and claim for promotion enormously but Blackwell has conceded defeat in signing the 22 year old.

Wigan have asked for £2m for the Welsh international but Blackwell says he won't pay over the odds. Despite signing Darius Henderson for £2m (a player that we didn't really need) Blackwell refuses to pay the same price for a player that we do need.

Blackwell said: "We are struggling to get going, but I've enquired about 25 left and right-side players and we will only pick one up if we think it's right."

Meanwhile the rumours linking the 'Lord Michael Brown' back to the Lane was just paper talk. He says he is flattered being linked with the Bramall Lane club again.

'The Lord' said: "There has been a link to Sheffield United. It's very flattering but it's just paper talk as usual."
