De Leeuw, 23 is valued at £450,000 and has found the net 25 times in 36 first team games for Veendam during the course of the 2009/10 Jupiler league season and was in turn named 'prospect of the year.'

Should he sign for the Blades then he would become the clubs fifth Dutch player in recent years with Len de Goey, Michael Vonk, Laurens Ten Heuvel and Marcel Seip have all represented the Red and White Wizards.

Incidentally Ten Heuvel, whom made five appearances for the Blades during the 2002/03 season is now with Netherlands club VV Katwijk - they play in equivalent to League One football.
