Paddy Kenny, Kristian Rogers, Paul Gerrard (loan), Alan Fettis (loan) and the unforgivable Lee Baxter have all made appearances between the United sticks.

Provett (aged 21), the Hartlepool United keeper is having an outstanding season with the Second Division club and as taken the eye of the Blades boss who is attempting to make a bid.

The Pool board however are likely to demand a £500,000 fee which should put the cash strapped Blades off, though the half a million which was acquired from the sale of Michael Brown to Tottenham has yet to be spent except the £75,000 which brought Paul Shaw to the Lane.

Meanwhile the Bramall Lane manager has insisted that he is not prepared to dip into the transfer market; "I just don't think there is anyone out there who is better than what we have," Warnock told sufc.co.uk.

"It's not as if the board are stopping me although, yes, I would have liked [Darren] Huckerby or [Jason] Roberts. We have to realise we are just not in that market."

He then made a comment about the Baggies: "West Brom paid £1.25m for Geoff Horsfield, who I like, but he wasn't better than Ashley on Saturday."
