Manager-less Leeds United, whom currently have Blades striker Geoff Horsfield on loan has taken the 35 year old defender on loan and has become caretaker boss John Carver's first signing for the Elland Road club.

Carver told the club website: "Alan comes with a wealth of experience as he has made only 500 appearances, mostly in the Premier League.

"He's got good energy and he will attack and go forward but primarily he is a defender."

Meanwhile rumours are circulating that Leeds United defender Matthew Kilgallon could be set to leave the Whites in January for a Premiership club.

Everton, Wigan Athletic, Charlton Athletic, Portsmouth and Sheffield United are all interested - but has the deal with Alan Wright already been set up for Kilgallon to make his move to Sheffield?
