Kevin Blackwell is in a race against time to secure the services of 28-year-old left-back Stephen Jordan to make sure he's available for Sunday's curtain raiser against Cardiff City. Jordan, who has been in pre-season training with Championship rivals Portsmouth, is set to snub the South Coast club and make his move to South Yorkshire on a free.

United are incredibly short in defence, with no right-back at the club, but Kevin Blackwell is set to strengthen his left-back spot with the addition of Jordan. Andy Taylor and Rob Kozluk are Jordan's competitors if he completes his move, which is highly likely.
