The Mirror and various other sources are reporting that Blades defender Matt Kilgallon has signed and sealed a deal at Championship rivals Newcastle United. Kilgallon, though, United's star defender, has been consistently bad since bursting out on a Sky Sports interview that his desire is to play in the Premier League. Table-topping Newcastle could soon be there.

A figure hasn't been publicised by either The Mirror or any other sources on the net, but the sum the Magpies have supposedly paid for him is intriguing to say the least. Quality players such as James Beattie, Kyle Naughton, Kyle Walker and David Cotterill have all already left, most of them being forced out for 'financial reasons'. Walker, though, is on a season-long loan at Bramall Lane from Tottenham.

If Kilgallon was to leave it would have to be pretty soon as the loan window shuts very shortly.

Trevor Birch, Sheffield United's new Chief Executive, earlier in the week confirmed that he was in talks with Kilgallon and everyone concerned about the former Leeds man staying on at Beautiful Downtown Bramall Lane - Birch's persuasion doesn't seem to have worked.

We'll have to wait and see what happens.
