Scot to be Danny's first signing

jp mcgovernMcGovern, 30 has previous sent time at Bramall Lane whilst on loan from Celtic; he joined whilst under the regime of Neil Warnock in August 2002, making his debut in a 1-1 draw with Portsmouth and scored his first goal four days later against Walsall.

His spell at S2 last until mid-January 2003 where he returned to Celtic Park; he had added further goals against York City (League Cup) and Cheltenham Town (FA Cup) whilst drumming up 14 (+4) appearances for the Blades.

He later played for Livingston, rivals Sheffield Wednesday, Milton Keynes Dons and current club Swindon Town where under Danny Wilson the Robins were relegated to League Two.

Under Wilson McGovern was almost ever present  and is believed to be rated highly by the new United boss – during his career he has won honours with Livingston and Sheffield Wednesday; lifting the Scottish League Cup (2004) and winning the League One Play-Off Final (2006).

It is understood that it would cost the Blades in the region of £400,000 for his services with transfer funds made up from the sales of current united players.
