QPR are the other outfit supposedly interested in the former Crewe Alexandra hit-man. He is out of contract in the summer but did have an offer turned down for him from Nottingham Forest in January.
Bristol City Chairman Steve Lansdown said: "He is a key player for us. We had a conversation when the (Forest) offer came in for him and we wanted him to stay and still do.
"As I have said to the players we will sit down and discuss a contract but if we don't get it done we will wait until the summer."
