The Barnsley born striker is out of favour at the Hawthorns since the arrival of Nathan Ellington from Wigan Athletic and has not scored since 27 August 2005 in the 3-2 defeat to Birmingham when he grabbed both goals.
Neil Warnock is keen to make at least two new signings during the January transfer window and could look at unsettled Horsfield to help push the Blades back into the Premiership.
