France couldn't nick a later winner against 10-man Uruguay in a fairly drab encounter at the Green Point Stadium, however, Uruguay's Nicolas Lodeiro was dimissed for two yellow card offences...

Nicolas Lodeiros learns his fate - a red card!
After being treated to a colourful Opening Ceremony earlier this afternoon at the Soccer City Stadium, Uruguay and France didn't serve up a treat we was all hoping for at the Green Point Stadium.

The game produced few good chances, but neither side capitalised on those rare opportunities which arose. France, who have supposedly had off field problems between the manager Raymond Domenech and a couple of his players, had a guilt-edged chance to break the stalemate after Ribery's low ball into the box needed a heavier touch from Sidney Govou to find the onion bag; the ball trickled past the far-post.

Forlan replied for Uruguay with a stinger from outside the box after skipping through a few challenges - Lloris, the French goalkeeper, was equal to it, though.

Gourcuff almost caught Uruguay 'keeper Muslera napping and fooled everyone by shooting at goal from a free-kick which he was expected to cross into the danger area.

In the second-half, Forlan had a strong chance to put his country into the lead but he latched the ball wide of Lloris' post. Nicolas Lodeiro, a Uruguayan substitute, was shown his second yellow card in quick succession after horribly catching Sagna - the France defender was able to continue, though.

France had a handball appeal correctly turned away by the Japanese referee in the dying embers, but the Frenchmen just couldn't snatch a late winner against 10-man Uruguay. The final score from the Green Point Stadium, is, Uruguay 0:0 France.
