Did You Know?

The Clarets looked to be dropping out of the Football League during the 1986/87 season, but a last day 2-1 victory over Leyton Orient on 9 May kept the Lancashire club up. Instead Lincoln City suffered the disappointment of relegation.

01. What's the best that could happen this season?

That has to be winning promotion automatically. We have to be optimistic before the start of the season and I think we might be up towards the top of the table next May.

02. And the worst?

Without a doubt it couldn't get worse than being relegated, but that won't happen, there will be more than enough teams in the division worse than us and I don't see us being anywhere close to the bottom three.

03. Young player to watch?

From the current squad I would say Kyle Lafferty. He's still 19 but has ten caps now for Northern Ireland. I think he's going to have an impact next season.

04. Most important player?

We certainly don't want Andy Gray to suffer a long term injury again. He scores goals, he brings others into play so much, and we really missed him last season when he was out.

05. Player you would like to get rid of?

There are players I rate more than others but I wouldn't say there were any I would like to get rid of. Gareth O'Connor is on the transfer list and won't feature next season so for his benefit I hope he finds himself a new club before the season gets underway.

06. Is your manager the right man for the job?

He's got a bit less support than he did have following a run of 19 games without a win last season. I think he is, time will tell, but I believe it was the correct decision to stick with him last season when the going really did get tough.

07. What advice would you give him?

I'd better leave him to the football.

08. Which team do you most want to beat this season?

Leeds are gone now aren't they? That's one off the list, so I would have to say Preston who are our closest neighbours in this league.

09. Which opposition player will get the most stick?

Usually when I answer this kind of question the player I mention has moved on by the time the season starts. That makes it difficult so I'll say any former Blackburn player that plays against us.

10. Where will you finish?

I think we are going to have a good season. Above 15th would be an improvement, a top half position would be good, but I'll stick my neck out and say we'll be there or thereabouts at the end of the season, just sneaking into the play offs.

11. How would you rate Sheffield United and were will they finish?

That's a difficult one. You've gone from one extreme to the other, from Warnock to the most miserable of managers possible. Bryan Robson's only success came when Steve Gibson was throwing money at him so I think you'll not do as well as probably some are predicting.
