Did You Know?

Scunthorpe United finished fourth place in the old Third Division during the 1971-72 campaign, and was enough to ensure promotion. However it went down to the wire as only eight goals in the last thirteen fixtures were knocked in and only ten points collected. The Iron hung on and clinched promotion at the expense of Lincoln City by one solitary point.

01. What's the best that could happen this season?

Well last season everyone tipped us for relegation and we stormed to the title. A repeat would be nice...

02. And the worst?

If the pundits are right!

03. Young player to watch?

Martin Paterson has joined from Stoke, and looks impressive so far. He had a good scoring ratio while on loan at Grimsby last season, and at just 20 will benefit from being a first-team player.

04. Most important player?

Goalkeeper Joe Murphy was immense last season and took most of the player of the year awards, eclipsing even Billy Sharp.

05. Player you would like to get rid of?

We've got too small a squad to get rid of players! Everyone has an important role to play.

06. Is your manager the right man for the job?

Absolutely! He could motivate my gran to do a job for the team! His record is statistically better than Brian Laws' was when he left, and few fans doubt that had we not swapped gaffers we wouldn't have won the title.

He's popular with fans, honest, and the bet motivator I've ever come across in the game.

07. What advice would you give him?

That we're 100 per cent behind him, even if results aren't going our way.

08. Which team do you most want to beat this season?

You'll love this one - Wednesday. Laws took a lot more credit from his time with us than many of our fans felt he deserved, so it'd be great to show him how we've become a better team/club since he left.

09. Which opposition player will get the most stick?

Okay not a player, but probably Laws. Billy Sharp will get a good reception, he did so much for us in his two seasons at the club.

10. Where will you finish?

I'd be delighted with 20th.

11. How would you rate Sheffield United and were will they finish?

Clearly with your financial power you should be up at the top end of the table, play Sharp regularly and you'll go up. That's my advice for Bryan Robson!
