2010-11 Championship Preview: Cardiff City

Last updated : 22 July 2010 By Michael Morris & Blades-Mad

So near, but so far. Cardiff City got to within 90 minutes of the Premier League but fell at the final hurdle.

I don't like to use clichés but our final game surrender leaves the cliché option wide open. After a season of transfer embargoes, HMRC writs in the high court and talks of a takeover, to find ourselves in the play off final was quite an achievement. It came as a real kick in the what-sits when we blew it against Blackpool.

It just felt right that it was our time; a new shiny stadium, decent first XI, overseas investors rescuing the club from the clutches of Administration. Victory at Wembley would have rewarded everyone. Still football doesn't work like that. Expect the worst and anything more is a bonus. Thing is, I think we all expected better from that fateful day in May.
