Last season was a turbulent one for the Whites. Expectations at the start of the season were for the Lilywhites making the top six again as Alan Irvine managed to retain the majority of the squad which were defeated in the playoff semi finals against Sheffield United.
The season started well but form soon dipped from October onwards although this mirrored the previous season. Unfortunately, Irvine was unable to turn things around and was given the boot coincidentally after a one nil defeat away at Bramall Lane.
Darren Ferguson was then appointed with little time to change things around. It became apparent that many of the squad were unhappy and in the end Preston scraped home in a lowly mid-table position. Fergie Jnr has now changed more than half the squad and debts are currently being sorted by a takeover of the club to ensure more stability this forthcoming season.
