Blades 0:1 Doncaster Rovers

Doncaster took home the spoils in a pre-season friendly with their neighbours Sheffield United after a solitary goal on 73 minutes earned them victory.

It was Danny Wilson's first game in charge of the Blades at Bramall Lane, and he took the opportunity to try and test different players, making six substitutions in all.

New signings Ryan Flynn and Lescinel Jean Francois made their home bows, playing a full 90 minutes each, whilst Danny Philliskirk was one of the six substitutions made.

Trialists Alex Kruk and Kevin McDonald were both half-time subs, giving them 45 minutes to impress each.

Daniel Bogdanovic came close for the Blades with a rasping free-kick which had to be tipped away by goalkeeper Gary Woods. Jordan Slew had a chance at goal after being played through by Montgomery, but he couldn't convert.

A long-range free-kick was pelted by centre-back Harry Maguire towards the Donny goal, but it was well handled by the goalkeeper.

Doncaster then took the lead after an exquisite strike from 25-yards from Gillett found its way into the back of Steve Simonsen's goal.

United had a few half chances before full-time but failed to convert, meaning Danny Wilson would lose his first game since being appointed as Blades boss.

My view:

With it being a pre-season friendly, you cannot look too heavily into results. Doncaster weren't any better than us in what was a half decent match, and it was a fantastic finish which settled everything.

New signing from Falkirk, Ryan Flynn, played out of his skin. His willingness to get the ball and do something with it was evident. His crosses were pretty much pin-point, and he looks to have a bit of flamboyance to his play, including a great first touch.

Trialist Alex Kruk looked really comfortable and read the game superbly. Kevin McDonald put in a pretty sturdy peformance too.

Francois also had a solid game, but in contrast Neill Collins was woeful. He just seemed nervous and was incredibly unsteady with the ball (something which we're well aware of let's be honest), but as Danny Wilson said, everyone has a clean slate. Let's hope he can do a job in League One.

The final score from Bramall Lane is: Sheffield United 0:1 Doncaster Rovers.
